The essential components of trusted data use in building a trustworthy metaverse

Abstract
In an era in which digital realities are increasingly as significant as physical ones, the rise of the metaverse offers exciting opportunities as well as formidable challenges. As users delve into these expansive virtual worlds, the foundation element of their interactions - trust - becomes crucial for seamless integration into daily activities. The nature of data usage within the metaverse can vary greatly; it can be trusted, untrusted, or not utilized at all. Employing trusted data involves the responsible, ethical and secure management of information. This not only enhances the confidence of users and stakeholders but also enriches the overall metaverse experience, fostering a community where trust is paramount. This technical report is dedicated to establishing a comprehensive understanding and outlining the essential components necessary for integrating trusted data within the metaverse to ensure its trustworthiness. The report starts by discussing three key aspects required to understand a trustworthy metaverse and conducts a comprehensive examination of characteristics of trusted data. It then outlines the essential groundwork needed to understand the symbiotic relationship that facilitates the use of trusted data in establishing and maintaining a trustworthy metaverse. Essential components proposed include strategies for the construction of trusted data, trusted data interactions, trusted execution environments, and trusted management policies.
